Greetings - I am in the process of building out another tank- 75g for my studio (back of the house). I have a 150 and was considering pulling water from the main tank and adding it to the new tank. I do 25g water changes weekly. Poof instant cycle or no? Am I missing something? Will this really work or am I delusional? I figure I have a water change coming up at some point and will do a midweek water change to get me at least half of the 75g needed? Help me out- Am I crazy or what?? Thoughts??

Bacteria need a surface to grow on. The water will supply some bacteria but that will have to grow a bit on rocks or something before adding livestock

Oh I forgot that part. I have no intention of adding fish for a good portion of time. I learned early this is a patience game. I was just curious if this would work. I think what I am hearing is I will still have to endure the uglies as the bacteria colonizes the new rock. Thanks for chiming in!!!!

Steal some rock and water from your existing system and you should have a short cycle.

I thought of that but my rock work and corals make that very difficult. So not going to even attempt that. BUT YOU JUST GAVE me an idea —- I Will throw the rock in my sump and let It cook for a week or two then move it into the system. Thank you for the idea. Two thumbs up.
