So, with all the dosing / supplements that are added on a regular basis how much of these are actually making it to a point that it’s not just being taken out via skimmer, carbon, algae or some other type filtration?
I realize we can test certain perimeters but others not so much. Are we wasting money on things that are just getting filtered out?
And how’s a reefer to know?

Excellent question IMHO.

But then I only use live rock, a filter sock, refugium with a mix of macro algae and a skimmer for filtration. On the other hand I don't use GFO, carbon, phosphate reactor or any other chemical filtration. And I dose Ca, alk and Mg by hand and not any other additives. I just don't think most of them really do as much good for the tank as they do for the reefer's mind! My mostly zoa tank is very happy and my RFAs have bred 3 or 4 times now. To me, less is more when it comes to commercial additives.

I would like BRSTV to run some tanks and see if they could figure out if anything could be determined. I believe there are to many variables to consider though. I think we hedge our bets on believing to much in what could be construed marketing.

This is a hobby where so many people struggle, or want faster growth and the marketing of quick solutions is just about overwhelming.
