I have a pair of clowns which have decided the overflow grill is their place to hang out in the tank. Often literally resting against the grill at the very top of the water. I know this isn’t that uncommon, but I do wish they would find somewhere else. I’d like to motivate them to do this. The plan is to use a terracotta pot with coated magnets and hang it off the tank wall close to their favorite spot. The hope is they will love this hide out and then I can slowly move it away from the overflow. Hopefully, this will reduce the number of times I have to remove them from that overflow box.

Anybody ever tried this? Do you think it will work? Other ideas?

It is a 180 gallon with plenty of room. They have done this since I got them a couple years ago even when they were in a different tank.

Never tried it. Clowns will be clowns

They are intimidated by your other fishes. I think having a flower pot will help keep them more comfortable and is will work. Good luck. Please update.

Sounds like a good plan. Let us know if that works.
I have gotten my female out of the overflow also. She hangs out there. While the male hangs in the other corner of the tank. The only hang out together a little bit when the white lights are on. Then back to their corners.
So I'm curious if it will work.

I think we are making progress. The first attempt failed. The pot was too big I think. 5846B953-BD89-458B-AF46-7D4A426E73A7.jpeg
My angelfish loved it. He’d wrap his body around it like he was a Blenny trying to hide. The clowns just hid behind it.
I found a smaller pot 2 days ago and put that in there. A277D561-EEE6-447D-B659-9ADDAD0C9218.jpeg They are already exploring it. Honestly to see these two clowns lower than 2 inches in the water column is rare. I’m excited for the progress. Even if I can get them to hang out here, I’ll be happy.
