So I have been keeping reef tanks for more than 10 years now.

I was thinking recently how much I have learnt in that time by sheer trial and error (and loss).

The biggest tip I can give anyone in this hobby is that building healthy habits of "little and often" maintenance leads to less total time invested in your tank and more stability and better growth overall. WE have all been there, putting off doing job A and job B and then doing A and B together only for something to go wrong. Sounds simple but the execution of this, consistently, is what I consider advanced.

What are some of the "next level" tips you wish someone had shared with you sooner?

I wish someone had told me about the Aquarimate app sooner. It helps you be successful at exactly what you shared--doing "a little, often." I input how often I want to perform each maintenance task, and then it schedules all of that for me and adds to my calendar, reminding me when it's due.

Nice. I have the GHL aquarium computer stuff so I put my reminders in there!

I'm reading Randy's latest article on Alkalinity and pH, interesting.

If you want to keep SPS the best tip is to keep ALK very stable and dose small amounts several times daily and also dose Cal, daily!

Always have 2 test kits for at least CA, Alk, and calibration fluid for salinity to verify each time and when numbers are off. This would have saved panic and taking samples to my local shop. I also recommend testing with AI or Triton with a control sample to compare Salifert or Red Sea test kits.

I definitely agree with this. Ryan from brs had a talk and pretty much said the exact same thing, and that why you see so many 1 and 2 year old tanks but no nearly as may 5 to 10 year old talks
