We were asked to put this clam in our tank because he was not doing well in his previous tank. The owner of his former home said that he had been fine until the ambient light in the room was made very dark. We have had him less than a day. We have seen the peppermint shrimp picking at him. We have aqua illumination hydra 26's. Any advice on maximizing his chances?

He is still moving a little. Should I take him out of the tank?

I wonder if those R2R folks w experience could help educate the novice reefers on the finer points of identifiing problems and optimizing care of a clam such as the one above. Thx

I understand what you mean with this post because everyone has passed through same problem as yours and try to find an help
Problem with clam is not so simple because there is not an abcd.. for them
Much is from experience and also you will have problem too
I'll try to give you a simple guide
First is the choice of the animal
Do not buy animal less then 7-8 cm they are really difficult and also inhabitants of the tank will try to disturbe it
Do not buy a clam online if you do not be sure of the one who sell to you
Best is to see the animal with your eyes it must be open well react to shadow and touch and its siphon must be open for max 1.5 cm and you have not to see white spot of discoloration on is mantle
Byssum that is ligament clam use to stick to rocks or .....must be present
And if you move the clam it's possible to broke it so be very carefully
When you have your clam in the plastic bag be sure that there is enough water clam never be exposed to air ...only when they are perfectly closed is possible but for very few time if air remain entrap in the clam it probably die, so also during acclimatation do not expose it to air but do every thing in your tank' remaining underwater with it
At last place it where the particular clam you choose like
Be sure there are not parasites of clam those are 2 in particular a flatworm
And some pyramidal snails you will find some posts here about them
Water of your tank must be perfect
You can feed with phytoplancon best if is live phyto directly in the tank

Sorry for my English

Thank you so much! This will definitely help for next time!
