If you have flatworms you can do lugol’s iodine dip followed by a clean saltwater dip.
it won’t kill the eggs but it’ll sure get all the live ones out. For the eggs you’re going to have to scrape them out with a gentle toothbrush

how can I scrape them off? wont that irritate the tissue?

They are tough, I have many that decayed to the center and I thought were dead, after 6 months out of the center with a black light you can see them regrowing. The ones that all the way down now 1/4 inch long. If it's not light, a large water change would never hurt

thats good, I was wondering because I do have some edges where the skeleton is showing.

Not the tissue part but most of the times they’re on the cone they’re on or their base. If they’re in the tissue then you’ll have to dip in lugol’s again when they hatch and hope they’re not somewhere else in the tank

oh I see, so the outside part of the coral. You dont think Coral RX is good enough? Seems like its widely used for flatworms. Also what do you think of Flat worm exit? I was thinking of using that as a last resort

Today the corals look a little better but still slightly contracted. One of my frogspawn was completed retracted with more tissue loss. There was some brown slime. I took it out and it smelled absolutely horrible so I tossed it away as I dont want that brown jelly spreading.

No coral RX is a very generalized dip and it won’t do the same job as lugol’s iodine, that stuff does wonders for euphyllia. I’ve had some torches go through a rough time because I had a hitchhiker in the tank and dipped it in it and then fresh saltwater and it looked 10x better within the week

also I have never had to do the flatworm exit method so I can’t say much

how long did you dip it in the lugols and then the freshwater? I will give lugo a try then consider flatworm exit.

Not freshwater, fresh saltwater. Freshwater dip would kill the euphyllia, you can do it for a couple of minutes and see how the torch reacts to it with a turkey baster blowing the iodine at the coral

So just as an update, that frogspawn started to get worse and eventually brown jelly. I tossed it out. The hammer nearby remains retracted but not brown jelly yet. Now one of my torches is shrinking and there is some tissue loss. I dipped in iodine last night, now its recovering on the sand. Ive also noticed my other euphylia is about half the size as they were when I look at old pictures. Its very frustrating considering my parameters are good

alk- 10
ca- 450
mag- 1350
SG 1.024 (turned off ATO to raise to 26)
nitrate- 5
ph 8.1
temp- 78
nitrite/ammonia- 0

As far as flat worms... I dont think I have any. I used flatworm exit yesterday and didnt see a single worm. I then did a 25% waterchange

I turned off my alkalinity auto doser as its pointless due to very little alk consumption, now that my corals are no longer growing.

For now its just a long painful process watching these euphylia die one by one. My other corals are doing fine. I have acans, zoas, duncans, mushrooms, and GSP all doing well. I dont understand why they even consider euphylia "easy". Defintely frustrating

It could be very frustrating. I went through that at the beginning but eventually you get it and the tank looks complete. The iodine has always worked wonders whenever my euphyllia gets a little stressed and they fill up like this within the hour

So my torch and hammer just kept losing tissue each day even with the iodone dip. It looked to be a lost cause so i tossed them out. I didnt want them to risk spreading BJD although it didnt smell like it.

Right now my other euphylia are doing ok and are open but just not as extended. I am working on getting my mag up to 1500, otherwise other paramters are stable. Phsophates are .50 but I added phosgaurd so hopefully that will help. Im also strictly using RODI for top off rather than my own RO water

any other suggestions?

What’s your dip routine like? Describe step by step so I can tell you the next steps

I dipped in iodone for about 10-15 min. the water was opaque with iodone. anyways it didnt matter, next day they were goners...

I ended up tossing the torch and hammer. water parameters were all within range. My phos was 0.13.

I also noticed my tank water had a yellow tint. I added a large bag of carbon in additon to chemipure blue and added a UV sterilizer for 3 days. the water cleared up really well. I also noted 90% less sand algae and glass algae is less. The tank looks alot better. I still dont know what killed my euphylia. It started with 1 and spread to 4 others that ended up dying. all other corals are fine.. I still dont get it

For the lugols iodine, does it have to be made for coral or any works. Please see attached picture, this works?
