Advice needed: Marineland Maxi-jet 400 installation

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I replaced an older Koralia Nano powerhead with a Maxi-jet 400. Unlike the Koralia, the Maxi-jet uses suction cups to attach the unit to the glass. But, the suction cups keep releasing and the pump keeps falling down. I do also have a Hydro Water Deflector on that pump.

Has anyone else had this kind of problem? How did you resolve it?

I don't really want to glue the pump to the aquarium glass, but I don't know what else to try. The hanging hook option that comes in the box doesn't get the pump low enough into the tank.

scrub and scrape the heck out of the spot where the cups go in the tank. then use spit on the cups before you install them. no really!

Thanks Saltyfilmfolks! I didn't try the spit! I will try that right after I finish my drink, there are 3 suction cups after all.

Well, last night I thought the scrubbing and spit had worked, nut this morning the pump was back on the tank floor.

Unfortunately they're not cheaper but the magnets are strong.

Dang. Plan B then.
zip tie glue etc, the koralia magnet cups to the mj.
I poked a hole and fed the zip tie through the rubber.

Yes, we have gone from spit, to bailing wire.
