Hey guys I'm just getting into the hobby and I wanted to set up a nano Reef. But here's the question what would I need to convert this fresh water tank into a fully functional salt water tank? Its a 5.5 gallon top fin with internal filtration. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Though it's not popular, it is possible to convert a FW into a SW tank. First thing that you want to do is definitely get everything out of the tank. Save your sand and plants / rocks if you can somehow. After that you need to get working on an RO water ONLY scrubbing of the tank. Should probably scrub through with RO a few times. After that if you want to re-use the sand you also again must very thuroughly rinse it multiple times through RO only water. After that you should be able to set that bad boy back up and get it ready for some reefing action.

You'll need time every day to care for the new reef tank!

Good luck! Welcome to the forum :)
