My tank is a 20 gallon with no protein skimmer. Currently have no corals or fish yet, just inverts. Its 4 months old. Ive been using read sea coral pro, but will be switching to the red bucket because the coral pro is making my calcium 500-550. My alk hangs around 9-10 dkh.
I just added some purple helix coralline spores to help boost the coralline growth in my tank. It recommends that my ph be around 8-8.4 range. My ph stays at 7.8 however. I read that kalkwasser raises ph, but im worried that with my calcium and alk already being high and not having any coral yet that dosing kalk would be a bad idea. Does anyone have any advice on increasing ph at least to 8 to help with my coralline growth. I plan to do a 50% water change this weekend using the red bucket salt to help lower the calcium and probably the alk too. Perhaps then i could dose kalk as long as the calcium stays below 550 and my alk stays around 10-12. I don’t know any advice is greatly appreciated.

co2 scrubber/ windows open / add a fresh air vent

Open windows to reduce inside co2. Wait a few more months for coralline. Shoot for alk 8 and calcium 420.

Fritz RPM salt is a stable option for proper metrics.

I would do 10% water changes weekly for now. When coralline algae starts growing (it will eventuall), add some corals. At that point, alkalinity and calcium should decrease. Then start adding kalkwasser to maintain your target alkalinity levels.

Thank you , ill try that.
