Advice on painting aluminum stand

I picked up a used aluminum stand and I want to repaint it. It looks like it has a top sparkling clear layer that's flaking off and is gray underneath. There's a lot of spots with salt creep I also want to clean off.

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice before I started. Thanks in advance!

Try using some MEK or acetone to see if it comes off easily... If it doesnt, I would just use a die grinder to get the paint off easily with a fine disc then use fine sandpaper to smooth it out... or you could sandblast it if you know someone who has access to a sandblasting booth... lol... make sure you clean the entire stand with either the MEK or acetone before painting again to get a good bond with the paint... They have some good epoxy paints you can diy or if you want that badboy to look beautiful and indestructable you could get it powdercoated or anodized... powdercoating is fairly cheap now... they would just coat the entire thing and bake it in an oven... no disassembly required... sorry if I went too extreme... hahahaha

You could get a angle grinder with a soft wire wheel or a flapper wheel and take that paint off super fast and then you some outdoor krylon spray paint. Just make sure you paint outside and use eye protection if using a angle grinder.

Probably cost you around $150... you would have to shop around for places... southern california has a boatload of metal fab shops... id just call around for one that specializes in metal coatings and bonding... we have a few here we use in Temecula... price will very with color and thickness... you can even get different types of patterns... If you want this thing to last forever and never corrode, powdercoating is the way to go... plus it looks amazing... probably be cheaper if you strip it yourself and do all the prep work... that way they just hbe to do the job and they are done... no labor charge... probably gonna have to take the doors off it looks like... it if it was me, thats the way id do it

Could ask if they could add a 1/4” piece of aluminum on the bottom there as well... might just throw it in... you never know

What would the 1/4" piece of aluminum be for?

All the panels are acrylic/plastic and all the pieces of the frame is aluminum.
