Hello,
I have two new fish that I will be placing into my quarantine tank at the end of the week. One is a Swallowtail Angelfish and the other is a Melanurus Wrasse. Would it be better to just observe these fish and only treat if necessary or would it be better to treat prophetically with Prazipro and Cupramine. Thanks for your help.

I once read if you are an observant type that has some time to spend each day watching the fish then that's a good way to qt. if your not very observant and are a busy type that don't get much time to sit and watch your fish daily then prophylactically treating is a good way to qt. I personally treat prophylactically with copper and prazipro. But you listed two fish that are both either on the cp sensetive side or the copper sensetive side. You could get chelated cu and a test kit then treat with prazipro and in the 10 days or so your treating with prazipro observe and if ick or velvet appear treat with copper

My advice would be to use coppersafe, as mentioned above, and prazipro on the new fish. They should both be fine in that if it's brought up to therapeutic levels slowly. Not only do you have to be observant and have the time to sit in front of the QT and watch for 20 minutes or so every day, but you also need to be aware of what to watch for. The behavioral symptoms along with the physical symptoms can sometimes be difficult to spot if you don't know what you are looking for.

Thank you both for your help. I'm retired, so time is not really an issue. I'll get some coppersafe. Is it the Seachem copper test kit that is used with Coppersafe or the Salifert kit?
