I am doing a 72 bow front ( I know not a popular choice, but it was my fathers who recently passed away). I have a 20 gallon sump. The sump will have a sock on the water in line and the skimmer will be in that same compartment, the next compartment will be a refugium, and the final will be the return. I am looking for a good skimmer for my size tank, that doesn't cost 748495928476 dollars. Any suggestions? Space is not a huge issue as I have not installed baffles yet, but smaller would be nicer

I went with a Aquamaxx EM200 on my tank and love it. Vertex skimmers are really nice as well but a bit more pricey. I had a RO diablo once and it was a good skimmer but I found it somewhat noisy and was a little more difficult that my aquamaxx to disassemble for cleaning.

Skimmers are all about efficiency, control and user friendly for cleaning.
This is why I went with the Orphek Helix 5000 on my 46g bowfront.

Would it work for a 72 gallon tank?

I have a diablo and it has worked flawlessly for 3 years. Does make some noise but it comes at a better price than some other brands. Anything will work just make sure the skimmer is rated for at least your tank and sump size (total water volume). I would look at the 100g to 150g rated skimmers for your size tank. Always better to get a size up. Look at the skimmers dimensions to make sure it will fit into your tank. Also make sure you know the proper height of the water the skimmer will operate most efficiently; and that you can accommodate that water level in your sump.

I run the reef octo nwb 110 and it works great. Good price tag and user friendly. If I had to do it again I would go with the reef octo dnwb 110. Basically the same skimmer but its a recirculating skimmer and allows you to run it externally from your sump leaving more room in the sump for stuff or a huge refugium .

What I am seeing on this thread is opinions of personal skimmers in use.
How many out here have old skimmers as door stops?
Now add up the cost of these door stops and you will notice that the money spent on these come to an end result.
You want quiet .. DC pump
You want ease of cleaning.. removable base to allow body cleaning.
Who has wrists to big to fit into the neck of your 2" skimmer for cleaning (which you should do)
I can throw out skimmers all day long on this that will "fit" your tank but would never set you up to figure out later.. oh I should have bought this one
I have been through many skimmers over the last 10 years... and still have them.
Thousands spent. And still comes back to my original post :)

Where is this skimmer available in the US? Just asking... I wanted to learn more about it; and I can find the info on Orphek's website. But I can't find where its available and what the price is?? I like the idea of a DC pump. Seems like there is no distributor in the US. At least I can't find one...

There is a sales rep here in the US his name is Scott.
Any questions you may have you can ask in the "contact" on the sight.
Ofir is the owner and will direct questions to Scott.

SCA-301 or SCA-302. both are amazing skimmers. if youre doing a light bioload the 301 will do great, if youre going with a moderate or heavy bioload, go for the 302. you wont be disappointed. you can order off ebay, but sometimes you can just order off their website for cheaper. its http://www.scaquariums.com/category-s/103.htm

Been running the 301 for over a year on my 40B. Great skimmer!
