I'm getting a new custom tank and after some advice on best dimensions.
Priority is what is best for the fish.

1. Option 1: 63" x 24" x 22" (160cm x 60cm x 55cm) - ~140G (530litres)
2. Option 2: 59" x 24" x 24" (150cm x 60cm x 60cm) - ~143G (540litres)

Is it better to have more horizontal swim space for the fish across the length?
Or is better to rather have slightly more volume (width or depth) but less length.

Second question - is it better for the fish to have more width (back to front) or height?

We're talking 5% changes in dimension; I can't imagine it's a noticeable difference to the fish, unless you're getting something unusual? I'd select based on your planned aquascaping as well as the SAP (spousal acceptance factor).

Yeah I don't think it matters. That is about 1 clownfish in length difference and half a clownfish in depth.

Agree with @FurrierTransform . Decide based on your space available and how you are stocking it with corals and fish (and your aqua scape). Some fish and corals need vertical height while others need more of a dog run in the length

Ok cool, thanks all. I might go with option 1 then. I like the idea of having more swim length. Also makes it like a slightly wider big screen tv.
And might go for the more width at the (slight) expense of more height so I have more room for horizontal depth of the aquascape.

I think that option 1 is the best, although in your case the difference is minimal. My tank is long, 6', but narrow 18" and doing the aquascape is not easy. wider is better, than higher. I wish I had the possibility for more width, but I am limited by the space.
