I've been on the look out for used tanks to try starting my first reef aquarium. I saw a listing for a Red Sea 650 for $800 but since I'm new to this I have no idea what I'm really looking for. The pictures of the tank show that it looks really dirty but I can't tell if that means its been neglected to the point where its not worth buying. The cabinet doors are hanging off but the ad says that is from rusted hinges and that they will provide new ones. If I go take a look at the tank in person what should I be looking out for to make sure I don't waste my money? I read a previous post on checking for cracks, scratches, and the seals on used tanks but I was wondering if there are any other suggestions. Also would it be reasonable to ask for a leak test from the seller? Its a decently sized tank and I'm not sure if that's a reasonable request. The pictures below are from the listing.

Also here is what the post says: "I recently purchased this tank along with the equipment and fish. I took the fish from the tank and am selling the tank/stand which is why I am selling it for cheaper and not because it has any issues. It is still is good shape. The stand is also in good shape. The hinges are rusty but it will come with new hinges so they can be replaced. It also comes with good and working equipment. I will include any working equipment the tank came with. It has a pump and heater. The lights are Loop Current. The wave makers are 2 MP40s. It was previously hooked up to an older Neptune system but that was not working. Also will give you some other random things like some Hanna checkers."

That looks like a straight nope to me… used red sea not good usually, look for the posts about seam breaks!! Also I have a red sea and the glass is terrible for viewing. I have a bigger Aqueon and its night and day for glass clarity! Just some food for thought

No. Absolute no. If someone sells something in that condition... Nope! Looks totally neglected.

Given the issues with disastrous tank leaks with the first generation of RedSea tanks and the condition of the tank in the pictures I would stay away. If you do decide to purchase you should ask the seller to fill the display tank with water to make sure there are no leaks.

Ok, thanks for the replies! I thought it looked a little sketchy but I was hoping it wasn't since I like how peninsula tanks look.
