im not sure if there is anything wrong with him or not. I could be overreacting. I got him brought him home yesterday and put into QT. The LFS had him for 3 weeks so I know he was eating and looks healthy. Now he appears to have red around his gills and dark stomach area. Maybe from transport? Idk. Advice would be greatly appreciated. I know everyone is going to say ammonia, it's water from my DT been in QT for less than 24hrs and my ammonia test is 0.

What about Oxygen? Do you have a filter or powerhead disturbing the surface of the water? Is he breathing heavily? Do you currently have any medication in the QT with him?

I would give him a day or two to "settle in" to QT. How did you acclimate him and for how long? What was the difference between your QT's SG and SG of the bag water?

I acclimate by floating the bag in my QT water for 30 min. While it is floating I check the SG of the bag and adjust the QT to the bags SG by adding either RO water or DT water. When the 30 min float time is up I just dump him in

It sounds like you did it right. I'd +1 to giving him a little more time. Try to get him eating healthy, preferably vitamin-soaked, foods. If it doesn't clear up in a day or so I'd maybe consider antibiotics.

Keep in mind that all fish can, do and will change colors from day to night and with mood or stress.
The fish seems ok from the pictures just a little ghostly or faded in color probably due to stress
A few days to settle in and good ceding should have him back to normal
Make sure to add enough large PVC hiding places so the fish can feel more protected if needed while getting used to the new environment and tank mates.
The pale coloration is probably giving way to a better look at the red color of the gills just like a yellow tang almost looks clear at night.
Good luck and happy reefing

The powder brown is still eating like crazy. No scratching or rubbing, no signs of illness. His gills still seem red but he's on day 3 of prazi now. He seems happy. Thanks for the help
