I have an old MH / PC 6' fixture that I rebuilt. There are 3 - 250w halides and 4 96w actentic blue PCs. I need some night lighting and some supplement to the PCs during morning and early evening when halides are off.
There is a 1" metal strip on both sides between the MHs and PCs.
I would like to DIY 6' strips of blue leds that would be dimmable.
Anyone have a link to a previous diy or any suggestions.
Currently thinking about using thin aluminum channel and just putting higher end led strip lights in them and a dimmable power supply. But I havent seen the output of cheap roll/strip leds even the slightly better ones. Im sure they would be fine for night viewing but would they supplement the fluorescents during the day at all?
These below are kinda cheesy but better than they used to be...

Anyone try the Highlight series by Superbrightleds.com. They are strip lights, but have a decent output. I dont know what type of heat they can take though. Being that near the MH might damage the LEDs.

I’d worry they might melt.

If I put the strips in channel with a clear cover, also on Superbrights site, I may not need the waterproof silicone variety...but I dont know yet what the flexible PCB that all the SMDs mount to. I know 3M tape is the backing.

Looks like silicone can handle some heat before it combust...no melting! Ill get a temp reading, I dont think its over 400°F adjacent to the MH, but will see. Easy to try either way
