hello everyone! thank you for reading this post!

i have purchase new Red-colored acorpora convexa today

but unfortunately i have found this little flatworms detached from the skin of acropora when i do dipping the coral

i'm pretty sure this nasty things are AEFW.

i have refund and LFS owner said i can just throw it to the bin, but still don't want to kill the coral so easily...
there is no biting marks and eggs and detached flatworms are clearly smaller then adult AEFW
so i'm thinking about qurantin this acropora

i can set up 30gallon qurantin tank immediately

if you are me what would you choose?

1. qurantin the infected acropora

2. just throw it to the bin

thanks for reading!

last one pic is my favorite coral!

Do NOT risk it. Kill it with fire and try again with a different vendor.

Alternatively you could set up a coral quarantine, remove all the adult flatworms, wait for the eggs to hatch and kill all the juvenile flatworms, then wait two more weeks just to make sure there are no wormy survivors.

Do not place it in your display. If you can setup a qt go for it. Plan frequent dips. I dipped new acros, immediately, then 1 week, then 4 weeks, then observed for a month and then dipped 1x more before transferring to my tank.

I’d break off one small 1” frag and toss the rest. Then QT for 8 weeks dipping every 5 days. Lot of work for one frag but if you love it, that’s the safest way.

If you can QT it, you can give it a shot. I have dipped them in bayer a few times a week until the lifecycle of hatched eggs is done, then add a few weeks.

It might die, but it would be good practice and you can get that QT tank set up and ready for next time.

You said no eggs? Those don’t look like aefw to me.. more like a typical flatworm.. if you can quarantine I would do that and just dip it a couple more times over the next 2 weeks and see if anything else comes off..

After having battled (and won!) AEFW in my main display, I would NEVER take the risk again. Bin it, it’s just not worth it.
