Also, how does this compare to Siporax? Yes, I realize that this has already been seeded with bacteria, but Siporax will be seeded after a period of time. How do these compare in terms of surface area and capacity?

I use it, have since MACNA, it is a material that is made from pomice or pumice, highly porous and very light material. I have been very satisfied so far. The surface area and capacity are very similar to matrix, as a fyi. Obviously the major benefit coming with pre-loaded bacteria.

What is the recommended amount? I guess both on the low and high end of what someone would want when running the full probiotic system.

Like most biological medias, there is really no amount that can exceed, however, the instructions and amounts are on the container. I currently use 2 liters and 5 liters siporax. :)

I meant to say minimum and recommended amounts :). I've got 5 liters of Siporax and will probably add a few liters of this as well. Thanks

This may be redundant... What have you seen as a result of using Life Bio Fill? Thanks Perry.

The media as with others simply expands your biological capacity, kind of like adding a dedicated tank to your system with copious amounts of live rock. The media is more porous, and has a larger surface area, allowing you to essentially get a similar effect in a much smaller space. That biological capacity helps to work on nutrients being very low, this allows the aquarist to mimic the ocean with a wide array of food sources without compromising elevated nutrients, feeding more, dosing coral foods and nutrition. The advantage of AF Life Bio Fil is that there is not major wait time for the bacteria to seed this material, it comes pre-loaded with bacteria. Cheers :)

@Perry If I was going to put this in my sump for example, how much flow would I want/need to go through it or would it be better in a reactor?

IMO in a reactor as you want the max water flow going through this and you won't get that through the sump as they don't need that kind of flow.

Yes, @Diesel is correct, this is the best way to make sure the water has contact with the media. Otherwise, I would make an eggcrate basket and put in a higher flow area of the sump, and when doing water changes, I would shake off any detritus in the waste water before discarding. A reactor ensures consistent flow. I have mine in a reactor too, FWIW.

Thank you Diesel for the advice! :)

A friend of mine remind me yesterday on this quote that applies to most of that in this hobby. 'Low, slow, and in control'
Low gph, Slow flow, Control your algae!
It works like a charm every time.

I have been thinking about all these worked up bacteria reactors and we all know that corals love to consume bacteria :)
Having it just sitting there in your sump or reactor and let the water pass isn't much more than just old fashion LR in your sump with the same effect.
Probably LR has more advances but that's for another time
I used to run a Vibe on my setup for the ZEOvit system I was running, when I was done with the ZEO write up for 3.5 years it was time to move on to a different challenge.
But what to do with the Vibe?
Well, I put in there about 2 years ago the Siporax, yes it been around for a while.
This in order to feed the tank just with bacteria for the corals.
How this works is like any other reactor that your water flows through the only difference is the Vibe really is a reef Vibrator
You set it up on a controller and let it Vibrate for about 30 seconds or so and it will shake off some of the bacteria and detritus that gets accumulated but with the return close to the inlet from your Skimmer pump you will catch some of that as recommended with any Bacteria reactor but most of it will be released in the water column.
As effect a spike of bacteria.
Don't worry this never creates a Bac Bloom ever.
