I’m going to be setting up a miracle mud refugium, and I’m just wondering if there’s any point in also dosing Aquaforest’s Life Source? Tank is going to be all AF. Probably not going for a ULNS though, so no probiotics. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to use miracle mud then I would possibly not use life source. What AF products you are going to use?

Thanks for the quick response. So far I’m using Reef salt, Bio S, Life bio, and their carbon. I plan on using the phytoplankton, ABEV, and pure food when I add corals. Possibly Components 123 down the road if needed.

I also have their test kits, which I love. Very easy to use.
This is kind of a new and slow build, so not really sure long term what my plan is.

I just scoured through your build thread. Very impressive, and I definitely learned a lot.

Thank you. If you are using Bio S and life bio fill then you already started the probiotic method. You wanted it to go ULNS or not thats another thing.

Oh. I thought Bio S was just for cycling and the life bio fill was just filter media. I guess I’m confused. Is the probiotic method different than ULNS?

The word probiotic means a method which use bacteria. Your life biofil and Bio S both contain bacteria for nutrient control and nitrogen cycle so its probiotic method. Now when your probiotics work to lower down your nutrient too low we call it ultra low nutrient system (ULNS).

Yup, you can I do that myself. You need to understand the fact is that you can run a low nutrient tank using probiotic but it doesnot mean you have to starve the tank. My tank measures o NO3 and 0 PO4 but everyday I feed 2 cubes of frozen food to my fishes and every other night i feed my corals. I have a super heavy bioload but still its low nutrient. This because my system process the excess available nutrient quite efficiently.

I’m just wanting to keep it as simple as possible. I’ll be doing some more reading a d hopefully come up with a plan.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions!
