I’ve been watching lots of threads in the past year on the AF probiotic method and like the results. Is it possible to use the same method with a Ca reactor instead of dosing Components 1+ 2+ 3+?

How would one follow the AF method using a Ca reactor? My main reason for wanting to use a Ca reactor is the lower running cost long term as it will be on a 400+ gallon tank dominated with SPS.

I’m no expert but I have been running probiotic for almost a year now.

I would say most likely yes. Components 123 is dosing the big three plus trace elements. Your calcium reactor does that for you.

Probiotic method I think separated is running the salt witch contains the bacteria that turns all your nastys into something more solid to be skimmed out. In its most basic explanation. I think if you ran the probiotic salt plus the zeolites and dose probio s you would achieve the same results from a beneficial standpoint or from just the chemistry of what your adding to tank.

Something to think about probiotic recommends below 8 alk.

And I’m sure they might have media you could for calcium reactor maybe?

Just my 2cents I could be wrong lol

@Anirban @Aquaforest if using a calcium reactor which provides the Alk and Ca for the reef, would I only need to dose Mg and trace elements?

I have the following AF products in mind, am I on the right track?

Probiotic Salt
Pro Bio S
Mag & Trace
AF A, B, E, V

Am I right in thinking Components Strong is AF trace elements? If using Pro Bio S do I need to use -NP Pro?

Thanks in advance for any input and advice.

For calcium reactors AF recommend using component A,B and C for replenishing minor elements. You can add magnesium separately or use calcium reactor media which has Mg in it.
