African Cichlid to saltwater conversion

hi everyone,

I was going to do a second African cichlids tank but Now I changed my mind and want to do saltwater. I have cycled the tank but didn’t add any fish. I currently have a CaribSea reef type substrate. My question is am I able to reuse the substrate and what do I need to do to make it safe for saltwater?

You can absolutely use the same substrate. As for converting to saltwater, assuming that the water has been properly conditioned for things like Cholorine and choloramines, it's basically as simple as adding salt to the appropriate level. A hydrometer or refractometer will get you where you need to be.
Depending on your end goal, a fish only, fish only with live rock, or reef, rocks and decorations can make a big difference. Not all rock available is suitable for reef tanks.
I would suggest looking at a few of the "Sticky" threads on how to properly set up a saltwater tank.

Have u ever does copper in that tank? Certain meds will leach into substrate and silicones and then leach back out and inverts will not tolerate it.
