After 3 weeks Gem Tang stopped eating

Well, it isn't velvet, and is unlikely to be a true fungus (those are rare in marine tanks). It is either a bruise from handling it, or a spot where the mucus has been rubbed off - both from handling. Tube feeding is very rough on fish, I always sedate them with MS-222 before trying it.

Thanks Jay....just checked him...the mark doesn't look any worse today and all the soaked nori on the clip I left is gone...not sure that he ate it or if it detached and got sucked in by the filter but I'm hoping he at least ate some. I would think he has to be eating something to have lived 1 week without me seeing him eat....but that could be me trying to be optimistic. He doesn't look distressed and is not laboring so I will continue to treat with metroplex and prazipro and continue with soaked nori and attempted feedings. I've also been doing 5 gallon water changes every day but now every other day before reapplying meds.

Move him when he's not eating and weak?
I was thinking of another syringe feeding....???
What's the consensus? Move him or keep in QT with meds?
I know either way is not looking great.

Its a tough call with the Purple tang but DT is the healthiest environment for him.
Maybe Purple tang wont bother him. If it dose you could always move it back. Beautiful fish. Best of luck.

Are you actively dosing bacteria to his quarantine tank? Did you treat him with copper in there?

Actively dosing bacteria? Idk what you mean. I have been performing 5 gal water changes every other day, (30 gal QT), and treating water with metroplex and prazipro. Prior to these issues I always put special blend in that tank but haven't done so during these issues.

Amonia levels are undetectable, (just checked it again,)....also just did another 5 gal water change and I think I understand your question about dosing beneficial bacteria. I always do that since most of the time my QT is in standby with no inhabitants but I want to keep it ready for when I need to use it. Like I mentioned earlier I dose special blend.

Found the Gem dead in the DT ...
Not even 24 hours after adding him.
Still don't understand how I got him to eat after a few days and then he went from eating everything for around 3 weeks to stopping altogether.

That sucks, I've been watching the thread. I was rooting for this to work out with a healthy Gem.
