After cleaning my skimmer collection cup neck, i replaced it and turned the pump back on, and as expected it took a day or so to start collecting again, and regained a lil brown film, then... just stopped producing skimmate for seemingly no reason, now its been about a week since ive seen any real foam climb. Ive got a tang, two clowns, two firefish and a shrimp so i know it cant be an absence of organics, the tang is very good at being dirty lol, other than the usual cleaning, ive done nothing else different, (although technically itd be my first time cleaning the skimmer neck since i first opened it new and got it running) and ive noticed that my favia frag isnt as... bulky as it was starting to get finally. Any ideas on whats up? I guess i changed carbon two weeks ago so maybe a bad batch, if such a thing exists

sounds like a simple running issue. You probably just have to redial in your skimmer. My super reefs like this, amazing skimmer put if i change anything in the tank i have to monkey with the skimmer a little.

ok, awesome, thats what ive kind of concluded myself and have been making small adjustments, but i wanted to make sure it wasnt something like my hand oils (idk if its rumor or fact) or something weird like that

Have you cleaned up the pump? Looked for salt creep in the air line?

I'm beginning to think hand oils do affect the skimmer. Every time i stick my hands in the tank my skimmer won't skim for a couple minutes. Reefing madness has a good point to. Do you run filter socks?

Oil from your hand does change the surface tension of the tank water.

You can if you wish. But as long as you know the reason for the change of the skimmer. Just wait and don't rush and change your skimmer. Many additives also changes the surface tension of your water.

Oh yes i was not concerned with readjusting my skimmer, i no it will bounce back. I apologize for not explaining, will the oils in my skin affect the tank in a whole(corals and fish).

Always make sure to wash hands well with water to get anything on your hands offbefore sticking them in the tank.

i dont run filter socks, and i havent checked the pump or the airline, thanks ill have to do that yes
