How long after dosing can I put my crabs back in? I snatched 'em all out and put them in floating cups while I did the treatment. I put my skimmer, ozone and fresh carbon back online and a water change is on the docket.

i would say atleast wait 16-20 hours too let the carbon take its full effect. This stuff will kick little hermitt crabs butts

You are doing at least one more treatment right? You should be doing a second treatment after 7 days to kill any that may have hatched since the first treatment. Some recommend even a third treatment.

I'm in the middle of a treatment myself and won't put anything back in for probably a week after the last treatment.

From what I know redbugs do not hatch/lay eggs........

Hey Ron. It's Wrench from CMAS.

I'll be doing another treatment next week, then possibly one more. I had planned on putting my hermits back in the frag tank for easy removal.

If they don't, they are the only livebearing crustacean that I've ever heard of. It's true that not much is known about redbugs and their reproductive habits, but I'd always rather be safe than sorry.

LOL, I thought it might be you. I see what you mean about putting them in the frag tank for easy removal. I tried to find them prior to treatment and toss them in the sump throughout the previous day before treatment. Once I was happy I got them all it was easy to move them to quarantine. I found at least three hermits rolling around in their shells the morning after treating in the display. I tried to get as many as I could but I'm not too worried about them since I really wanted to just go crabless anyway. All mine seem to do is kill snails for new shells. I did make sure to get my skunk and emerald out though. I should have left the emerald in there since he's been climbing through my poccilipora more than eating my bubble algae that I hired him for.

I have my crustys in a 5.5g tank full of algae for them so they should be happy for a few weeks.

Yeah I'm sure I missed a few but I got the majority out. I have on BIG one that's been with me since the beginning that I had to get out. My frag tank is plumbed into my display so I put the hermits in a sealed container floating in the sump. In the morning I may put one in the system and see if it dies. I don't want to kill them all because right now they are the only thing eating my bryopsis!

Tony, I have a spare 2.5g tank that you can borrow if you want. I have a heater for it too. Bring that Tacoma up to Hampstead.

Red bugs (Tegastes acroporanus) are in the subphylum crustacea. Eric Borneman's site is offline which is usually a good source for more info.

I found a post from Eric on MD's forums that states"
"As far as can be ascertained, they are direct developers and thus do not have a free-swimming larval stage and they do not lay eggs on the host or substrates that can later hatch."

However, based on the taxonomy of the species, I would be inclined to believe there is a chance that they may be egg layers and due to the low dosage required, I'll be doing no less that a two dose regiment. This is my second time in 2-3 years treating the pests and it worked the last time. No reason for me to change now until the active ingredient is made commercially for reef hobbists or more is known on the species.
