I got my second batch of fish delvered this past week. Now up to two clowns, Midas blenny, flame hawkfish, sixline wrasse, orchid dottyback and a YWG. All the fish seem to get along well so that's a relief! The YWG is acting funny (floating around the tank on top and trying to get sucked into a power head) so I moved him to my coral QT and trying to get him to act right. He's eating and hopefully I'll get him to the display soon. Have 45 assorted frags quarantining in the QT. Good times!

Been having some algae problems in my coral QT and finally got rid of all of it yesterday. What a PITA! I am running a fishless QT to make sure I do t inadvertently bring any fish diseases into my DT when I transfer the coral. But a tang or some other algae-eating fish would certainly help (and probably help with the chronically LOW nitrate levels). Most of the frags are doing good. I do think I lost a branching chalice...it went from pink and vibrant looking to white in a matter of days.

A couple of my zoa frags and a green implosion paly frag don't look as good as before, but I cleaned them up good and scrubbed them with a soft brush and a little peroxide to kill the algae. Hopefully they will recover.

I recommend dosing ammonia (ammonium bicarbonate recipe by RHF) in your coral QT. I've been doing it on my QT for 9 months now with great results. Sometimes the coral QT seems to grow corals better than my display tank. It'll help fuel the corals and keep your nitrates up.
 
I finally have all my corals in the display tank and things are going pretty well. I've been battling some algae issues that aren't completely out of control, but I think I helped create a little hair algae problems by scraping some GHA off the glass in my refugium and allowing some of it to get dispersed throughout my tank when I subsequently turned the pumps back on. Thankfully by cleanup crew is working overtime and I just about have it under control. I have been battling low Dkh (been hovering around 6 even after two 10-15% water changes over two weeks). The pH is consistently between 8-8.27. My NO3 is usually between 11-14 and my PO4 has been hovering around 0-0.01 (which I have been trying to bring up with a little extra feeding of the fish).

I am not dosing anything and I only have a couple SPS corals. I mostly have LPS in the tank thus far and will continue to do so until I can get my parameters a little more stable. I do have @ 50 corals ranging from zoas, mushrooms, leathers, candycanes, GSP, blastocysts, scoly, montipora, stylocoelinnia, Duncan and whatnot)

The corals and fish seem happy. Daddy would be happier if I could figure out the parameter issues.....
 
As a follow up....my nutrients kept hovering around 0's even though I have been heavy-handing the feeding. So frustrating. I went from an algae problem one week to a Dino problem the next!

Installed the Aqua Ultraviolet 57 UV sterilizer and it has cleared the water up, but the Dino's are still hanging tough. Been dosing both nitrates and phosphates and seem to be holding them steady now on the NO3 5.0 and PO4 .05 range for the last several days.

Installed an Apex Trident and two DOS pumps (one for an auto water change system) and one dosing 2-part and the parameters seem to be holding fairly steady. Still a little on the low side for magnesium and I am manually dosing it as well as bumping up the water in my water storage tank.

This reef tank game is no joke....not for the weak at heart for sure!

I didn't add any live rock, but I also didn't add any critters for months..other than copepods (anfyer it was cycled) until things stabilized. The only SPS I have are five different montis....they are all doing well. The fluctuating/bottoming out nutrients has been my biggest aggravation thus far. Oh, besides quarantining coral in a 20 gallon tank. That was way harder than keeping them in the 125!!

I strongly suggest getting some live rock.

I live in Melbourne (Florida) but won't be putting any of my local live rock in my tank. I value the health of my captive bred critters and the potential hitchhikers live rock from the ocean might introduce could (and most likely would) be a deal-breaker.

Decided to wrap the tank in black and give it a 4-day dark period. No light, turned off the two MP40's and ran the skimmer, return pump and UV 24/7. Will be back home tomorrow night hopeful that it will make a difference in these stubborn dino's!
