Hi.

Since about 16 months I owner of a Reef Octopus classic 150. Was always happy with the skimmer.
Until a few weeks ago. The pump started to making a ratling noise. First I taught there was a little snail in it.
But after cleaning, the noise wasn't away.
After taking the skimmer again out and checked it again.
Now I noticed, the pump was back quiet when I pulled teh Venturi off.
In the meantime I contacted the distributor.
He sends me a new pump.
But, after nearly 2 week's, since this morning also this pump have the same issue.......
Has someone also has this issue
What could it be?

Have you cleaned the Venturi? Let it sit in some vinegar for awhile. Then Try again.

You don't happen to have cheato in your sump do you? If so a small piece(s) could've gotten into your pump. It happens to mine on occasion and I disassemble the entire skimmer including pump down to the impeller, soak it in white vinegar and lube the impeller shaft w/ vegetable glycerin.

Hi.

No, cheato. Also checked already on snails.
Everything is clean.
Also, the pump is just 2 week's running after they send me a new because the old one has the same issue.

A rattling noise from pump usually means impeller/magnet is hanging up on something. Sometimes they don't seat flat in chamber and the rattle around. It's just a magnet on a shaft and the impeller on end of the shaft.

I second this and add that the impeller do break occasionally. I had one break on me a year ago. It didn't look broken and I thought it was the pump itself. Bought a new pump and that's when I realized it was the impeller. The breakage was barely noticeable in my case.

Ok.
But again, and within 2 week's??
And, why it's gone when I take the air intake off?
I don't know if you have a bad pump or impeller. The reason why you can hear it with the air line is because the hose brings the noise out from the water and to the surface, or because the air adds turbulence to the impeller.
