Aggressive clownfish attacking mate

I have two clownfish I’ve had for 2+ years and they’ve never been super aggressive towards each other. The female is being super aggressive towards the male and his fins are damaged. I pulled him out and put him in a fish box. He’s breathing hard but that’s because of stressing him out catching him I think. He was coming up to the surface as well. I think he’s super stressed so I’m trying to separate them for a while. What should I do?

Keep them separated until it heals and then try again. If they start fighting again then they should be separated for good, as she will kill him if she has rejected him.

That’s so weird, I’ve never seen my female beat him up like this after two years of having them as a bought pair. They’ve always gotten along no problem. I didn’t think after they’ve paired that the female could reject the male, especially after 2 years of being paired. Any idea of why that could happen so randomly. I just came home from work today and saw my male all scratched up and it caught me off guard. Clownfish are so weird man.

also,fed them, males breathing slowed down. He did not eat. I think because of being overwhelmed and stressed is why because he ate yesterday.

Maybe she is getting ready to lay eggs? The female can get very aggressive if thats the case

Very possible, I know the exact rock they love to excessively clean towards nighttime. It’s never any other rock they clean. Maybe that’s a good explanation of the problem here. Thanks for the input!

I believe she is a Wyoming white. He is a frostbite. Quite a pair, I love them. This is the most recent photo I have of them, the good ones are deep in the camera roll haha. But she’s the farthest right.
