I didn't think Midas blennies were any more aggressive than most other blennies. Am I wrong? I purchased a tiny one, under 2", and tried to qt him with a purple fire fish in a 10g tank going through TTM. After the first transfer, I noticed them chasing each other a bit. But they both seemed equal in bullying. Both continued to eat. I had pvc hides in there, but both stayed out. After the second transfer, I noticed the firefish tail was a little frayed. I still didn't think it was too serious. They ate fine, but about 8 hours later, the firefish was dead. There were some red streaks on its side that were not present when alive. Could the Midas have killed him that quickly? It's been three days since the death and the blenny looks perfect. I'm not really sure how to proceed, or if I even really want this trouble maker in my DT. Any thoughts?

They usually aren't too aggressive, but Midas blennies can defend their territory. With more space and more cover, territoriality should subside.

My midas can be a bit snippy, but I've found that when he is, his attacks are pretty characteristic - he bites down, from above. If all the marks on the firefish were on the upper half of the fish, I'd for sure suspect the midas - if elsewhere, perhaps bacterial in nature?

Thanks for the heads up. The marks were on the side. Even if it was bacterial, I suspect it was brought on by stress/wounds from the Midas. I will move him to my DT next week. I halve a tomini tang, lyretail anthias and clown in my DT. I wouldn't describe any of them as timid, so hopefully the Midas will fit right in. Fingers crossed.
