Hi im new to the reef tank world and was wondering if my ai hd prime would be strong enough to support sps that are placed towards the top of the tank?

Sorry if it is a n00b question. I have a biocube29.

Thanks

Ive got the same light on a minireef 120. Some of my sps seems to of grown a little but recently half my coral died and one of the main theories was that the light was run too high % wise so yes I imagine if i bleached coral with it you can grow coral with it

I would say it depends on your settings and what sps you plan on adding. I have 2-26 HD’s 14” above my 29 gallon biocube and they don’t really produce much even at 75 watts each, 150 watts total. So you would need to use a lot more white to deliver enough par from a single prime hd. Lower light sps might be ok.

Thanks for the tips

I do have a par meter. Lots of successful 29g bio cubes with primes.
My par meter only measures around 225 -250 par 6” below the water directly under a single 26 hd in my 29 gallon frag. The par drops significantly 4-6” in any direction. I know what happens when the sps bug bites, so a couple lower light demanding sps will probably be fine but to say a single prime over a tank 25% bigger than your has “plenty of par” is not accurate.

Well I don't think those numbers are correct. But It would depend on your settings. So you answered your own question. Get you a pair of 26s. Good luck.

Those numbers are correct but I don’t like much white because they don’t appeal to my eyes/corals and will cook high end sps.
Don’t see any high light sps in your red neck fusion but it’s a great looking tank all the same. I just don’t want the OP mislead. I also have 2-52 HD’s over my 50 gallon sps dt. I have a lot of experience with the AI devices. Good luck OP.

It’s important to know that all of the brs video par readings are with all channels at 100%
