Hey reefers. I have a question. During the day my reds and greens are always down. Do they serve any benefit to my tank other than the looks of it? I feel like I'm just wasting power and if there is a benefit I will put them on. Please let me know asap! Thanks.

Red and green are mostly for astethics. Some people have gone as far as saying that they promote bad algae growth. Some that the reds will make your corals loose color blah blah. I have 2 hydras, and from what i have seen in others with the same lights and successful sps tanks is that they run them low. Like at 5 to 10 range. So its up to you really

And how high do u run your uv and when do u turn it down ?

I doubt you'll notice a savings in your electrical bill by shutting off the red or green lights. They should be turned down relatively low to begin with. I use the AI Hydra 52 and have some red and green turned on in order to produce light equivalent to 20K. Here are some articles about how light affects corals.

I have Vegas and keep the Red and green around 10%. As little power as LED's consume the cost savings of not running them is a non starter.

Here is the graph im using. So far i love it. I copied it from someone over the hydra settings in another forum. So far ny corals are responding very very good to it. Im using the coral acclimation at 35%. I started at 50%. And i drop 1 % every day. But if you want you can drop 5 weekly. I will also post a 20k setting and a 20/14k hybrid. Which is great for growth. I have thought of using it but since im doing so good with this one .. if it aint broke dont fix it!!
My current setting at 35% reduction or if you are on apex 65% intensity.

Here is the 20k at 70% on apex

Here is the 20k/14k hybrid. Shoud give your good color and growth. I would run this at 50% start and move my way up.
