I have an AI Hydra 26HD that got water damage on the top board. Can I just buy the board or do I have to send it to AI for repair? Does anyone have any experience in sending these back to the facility? Is it pricey? Thanks in advance D

Why wouldn’t you just ask Aqua Illumination?

They will probably want you to send it in for inspection. I had a very positive experience with their service dept. I had a single led not functioning properly and they replaced both led panels, under warranty. I only had to pay to have it shipped to them. Their service was quick and communication was excellent.

What did you find out? My connection board burnt and they want me to send it in but i really can not afford a large bill at the moment.

I shipped mine and they told me they dont make the parts to repair it, gave me a discount to buy the hydra 32hd. Honestly wasn't too happy with the discount but took it anyway because didnt want to pay for return shipping.

I've heard this story before. Mine was under warranty and I only had to wait 2 weeks for them to get parts before they could repair it. Luckily I had an extra LED to hang over the tank or everything would have died. I've heard the send it in/discount story from someone on here before. I have two hydra 52's and a 26HD, but I'll be looking for a new light manufacturer to buy from should the need arise.

Why do you think it's the connector board, is there visible water damage?

But yes, generally this is true across most light manufacturers, once your light is 2-3 years old and out of warranty, they no longer fix it and instead offer a very small discount towards a new light. The reason being is that they do not do a component level repair, but instead replace main board or the LED board. Once they no longer manufacture older boards, they run out of replacements and cannot fix the unit.
