Okay so I’ve been having issues with my tank as of late and haven’t been able to pinpoint anything.

The other day I was messing around the tank with my returns turned off and I noticed my light mount was underwater. I removed them and cleaned them off and replaced them but instead of placing them all the way down I have them elevated now pics below.

Here you can see where the water went up to. This caused the cushion inside to move a bit and expose some sticky glue substance.

Here is how I have the lights mounted now to not expose the sticky substance to my water again.

Curious to know if anyone thinks this might have been the issue with my tank or am I reaching at straws?

Also is this a safe way to mount these lights?

Thanks everyone!
Happy reefing!

You don’t specify what problems you’re having or the size of the tank, but I vote no. Very seriously doubt exposure to a little sticky on the pad would have any effect on the tank.

In terms of safety you want to make sure it’s super stable. Biggest risk would be the light falling in the tank and electrocuting things. Hopefully not setting the house on fire in the process with good breakers.

20g tank 16ish gallons of water. Stn over a few weeks. Some sps completely died while others are still hanging on. Didn’t affect lps until this week acans started to lose some flesh and not open up much. After water change and adding carbon everything is looking better stn has slowed way down or stopped completely.

Tank parameters
9.4 alk
460 cal
1430 mag
80F
5 nitrate
.03 phos

The mount for AI prim me can be submerged in water I have the same mount and light . It will start to grow coralline algae if it’s there long enough.
