Hi, setting up another tank this time a 20 gal and wanted to know what type of light settings you guys use and recommend. I downloaded the presets for Karen Vazquez (https://www.aquaillumination.com/signature_series/karen-vazquez) as I saw that her setting were used for some nanos, and additionally saw that some people altered the setting a little bit for a nano. The tank will be anemone dominated with some euphylia, mushrooms, and zoas. Any recommendations for a different preset altogether or an alteration to Ms. Vazquez's one?

Thanks in advance

I would recommend the BRS AB+ lighting settings, pretty popular for the AI prime. They made a video testing the setting on different tanks and provide PAR data as well. Here's a link to their video: BRS AB+

Appreciate it I will definitely check that out.

Off of the BRS settings, would this be something that makes sense? 1hour ramp up/down, all other settings there. Also lights off all night. Just want to make sure lol for anemone and LPS/softie growth.

I’m using the BRS settings on a 20G quarantine / grow out tank and it is working really well. My Prime is set about 10” above the tank and you’ll get around 150 PAR on the bottom of the tank in the center area and around 85 on the edges

Appreciate the info. I am using this nano as a sort of grow out tank as well. Will all be upgraded/go into my 55 gallon hopefully. So want best light for growing :).

Your settings look a little different than mine. My settings aren’t exact to BRS but probably super close.

Cool. Do you recommend your settings? What type of corals are you growing? I will be mostly anemone, torch, frogspawn, mushrooms, and zoas.

The UV will melt with that setting and likely the violet too.

I like my settings and so far so good! If you’re going to do mostly soft corals I think this is fine. If you start to add SPS then just put them higher up in the tank.

Right now I’m just holding some soft corals as I’m about to deep clean my DT because of a hydroid problem, and expect to lose a lot of corals. My plan is to hold and quarantine softies and LPS For the next few months.

Sorry, meaning what? I will probably go with mike550's settings for now unless someone comes up with better suited/specific numbers.

Basically don't run the UV or violet at high intensity for long periods of time. Their lenses aren't designed to handle it. The rest of the channels are fine though in my experience.

Ahh I see. So what times/intensity should I do? I have it at this and a 1 hour ramp up/down from 7:30am to 5pm. Thanks!

For the BRS settings with your tank, isn't it something like:

42 / 42 / 33 / 33 / 4 / 4 / 16? I thought what you have posted was for SPS. I could be 100% wrong but I thought the settings you have above would fry your LPS. I'm having a really hard time figuring out how to set my 16 Primes, I have 2 over a 40 gallon lagoon. Have zero idea what I'm doing, and I've watched that video several times.

Yeah I have no idea. From the video I watched they said that those settings were for LPS 25 gallon. That is exactly why I came here lol. For everyone's settings and to copy them :P

Anyone have any recommendations on uv/violet ranges? Are they too high and where should they be? Thanks!

I will share my settings, not sure how great they are or not, roughly started with a brs setting and went my own way adjusting the color to how I liked it.

tank is a 10g, I also use a 3d reef printed diffuser on the ai prime which blocks a good bit of the lights intensity, but cuts down on light spill and muted the shimmer a bit.

So here is the BRS settings for LPS. They have 116 uv and violet. Overall pretty similar to what I will be running.
