I was contemplating purchasing an AI Prime HD light.

I currently have glass covers on my tank and was wondering how far above the glass do I need to mount the light. Can I place it within an inch or two above the glass?
How hot do the bulbs get on the Prime HD light?

Thanks

The leds don't get too hot. Fan in top of unit cools the whole device.
Mine are 35cm above my glass though to provide max spread. You'll have a spot light if its that close, so yes you can but it will be dynamic lighting rather than even.

When I was sunburnt a few weeks back I could definitely feel the heat from the light when I put my arm under it. I wouldn’t put it that close to the glass. If your ai prime starts to overheat it goes into a “thermal cool down mode” which is nice. I 100% recommended ai prime HD’s

Thanks for the info
My tank is 18 in deep, so I was hoping to place it closer to the tank than the normal 12in height.
I also think having a "crane" poised above the tank is not very appealing to the eye, but to each his own:)

I keep mine 8 inches off the surface. Netting will let more light pass
