I used cheap Chinese LEDs for about a year and pretty much was standstill for awhile. I have switched to the AI Primes and have started getting new heads on my acans and my hammer has grown two heads and zoas just look better in general. I have used t5's in the past. They worked great but they didn't have the look I wanted for my aquarium. You can't beat the shimmer the LED's give. I will never use a metal halide because of cost and heat. I am going to add two t5 retrofit when I switch my tank over to the Nuvo 30 long with my 2 AI Primes and run 2 blue plus bulbs. I do believe that's what a lot of people are going to end up doing because T5 has a great history of growing coral and eliminating shadows.
I am excited to see how the combo lighting works because people are really liking their Hybrid combo. I just don't have the cash flow to spend $2k on a hybrid unit.
Right now I have the 2 AI primes on my 29 Biocube about 10 inches off the water. I really could use the one AI prime but I wanted to set them up and link them just so I had it figured out for when I switch.
