Hi all,

I have a 20 gallon reef tank with the following corals below and their placement. I have tried to fiddle around with lighting but its the one area I still struggle with in the hobby. Ive been in it about 8 months.

- Sour Apple Birdsnest (top)
- Jade Torch (middle)
- Purple tip Hammer (middle-top)
- Zoas (bottom for now)
- Acan (bottom for now)

I run blue, violet, and Royal up to about 40-45 percent for about 8 hours a day with UV getting to 20 percent and cool white getting to 8 percent. There is a 1 hour ramp up and down time. Does this seem to be in the ballpark or something I could do different? Just recently got the torch and birdsnest. Hammer, Acans, and Zoas have been healthy but not growing for awhile.

I have a prime 16hd on a IM nuvo 10 and use at least twice what your using and everything you have I have in it(as well as some Acropora and Anacropora, stylopora) and it's growing great. So 80% blues UV and violet, 20% white, no green or red. Mine ramps up to that for 3 hours then stays there for 6 hours and then ramps down for 3 hours to zero.

Hey! 20 gallon IM peninsula tank with AI Prime. Started with an AI Prime and added a Prime HD about two weeks ago. Everything was growing well with just the prime but with the HD it looks leagues better. Running 100% on both blues, violet, and UV 12% white, 5% on green and red. 2 hour ramp time starting at 8 and completely off by 9:30 so 9 hour full light and 4 hours ramping up and down. Pics for reference. Only the AI Prime

Update: I did up my blue, violet, and royal up to about 50-55ish now. I also added in some more UV and green/red. Hoping this can lead to some growth. I dont want to fry the corals so ill slowly add in some light to see how they react. Thanks for the input!

Awesome tank btw!

Are you getting an increase in algae growth running the red and green at those percentages?

Nope, I’ve got almost no algae growth. Just dealing with some bubble algae but it’s been pretty manageable. After I pick up an emerald crab, I think that’ll eradicate it permanently.

I had to use vibrant to get rid of my bubble algae problem. It took about 8 to 10 weeks before there was noticeable results.

I’m not really into dosing things into my tank, just a personal preference. I’m removing by hand and I’m searching for an emerald crab. It’s gotten noticeably better so I guess it’s working!
