Happy Holidays!! I love this time of the year. I have a light setting question for the AI Prime 16 HD Black lights I have. I currently have it set to blue lps preset that I downloaded from AI's Facebook page and not getting the results I would like. I will upload file as well as some pictures when I get home. I have a couple hammers, and a duncan. I thought at first that it may be the flow, but I have my nero 5 set to 10%, but still having same issues. My parameters are good. Salinity at 1.025. I feel like I am either giving them too much light or not enough. I have them in a Waterbox Mini Peninsula 25. I have them in the crush coral substrate at the moment. When talking about the lighting I am confused on peoples explanations. They say to set the lights low on some coral, but what is low? 10%, 20%. Some say to use blue light and some say to use white light. Some say to reduce red/green to 0 and others around 5-10%. I know it varies based on positioning of the coral as well. My two corals are pretty much in the center of the tank one (two head) is doing pretty good, but I have another hammer that is retracting and not doing well. Both have been in the tank for a month and a half. The hammer that is not doing well will open up somedays and other days not so much. I also have a duncan I just put in and it is retracted as well. I am wondering if it is too much light? I do have occasionally a salinity swing when changing water. It will sometimes drop to 1.023/24. I am not sure why this happens since I am testing the water at 1.025 before I pour into the tank. I am fairly new to the saltwater side of things and feel I have pretty much everything down except what lighting I need for my coral. I have two clowns and a fire shrimp that molts all the time in there as well so don't have a lot of traffic. Any advise/help would be appreciated. Even if I can get some direction on where I should go with the lighting. I wish some of the light presets you can download would do a better job of describing what coral it is best used for. I have another tank that I am about to place zoas in and will to do some more research on.
Also another question... Why in the morning when my lights first come one the coral will come out and look great, but by the end of the day they are retracting (lights still on)? Is this an indication, I have the lights on too long or too bright? Right now they run from 12pm (with hr ramp up) till 10pm.
