AI prime settings and height?

hey all
I just got my Prime HD a couple of days ago and based on this great info, I went with the David Sixby preset. I do have some questions though.

I have a Nano Cube 28 and have set the height at 8" from the water and have a mixed reef.

Any advice on height or changing the colors? Or just any advice regarding this setup would be great.

Watch your corals they'll let you know. Unfortunately there is no "Here is exactly what you need". If there is I haven't been able to find it yet.

Which Saxby setup are you using? What corals do you have and where are they placed in the tank? I moved up about 10" AWL and using the low power version of the Saxby setup. All softies.

Makes sense thank you

I'm using the very top one. The TQI one

Thats a lot of light, be careful with the stuff thats close to the water surface. Are you using acclimation mode? What lighting are you coming from? What Corals do you have?

Should I start with the center one? I'm coming from the stock LED nano Cube setup. Which was extremely bright compared to the TQ1 setup or am I missing something? The stock LED from jbj were all white which was a 14k

Yes, I would and maybe try acclimation mode to turn it down and slowly (months) ramp it up to your full setting.

What corals do you have?

Its hard to say if he will get too much par, i have a fusion 20 with 2 ai primes hd at around 98% intensity and everything is growing fine, i have softies, lps and sps, also a derasa clam, the growth rate is really good.

I'm not even sure how acclimation mode would work. I'll mess with it.

Can you explain how this is harsher than the LED setup that came with this cube? Like I said it's not as bright.

Acclimation mode is simple, you specify a time frame and how much you want it turn down, it will start at the setting (say 30%) and slowly ramp it up (to 100%) over the amount of time.

Depending on what you came from and how much power, plus the spectrum. Just because it seems like it was a lot more light (in terms of what you see) does not mean that it had more intense lighting. Just a different spectrum.

I would start out on the lower side and see how the corals react. Ramp up if you need. You do not want to bleach anything out.

That makes sense. Okay, I will try the middle preset with acclimation mode.

I guess I'm not used LED's with full spectrum. I always assumed it would be a lot brighter than this. It's almost as if it's too much blue. Guess I'm used HQI.

You coming from a MH? You may be able to go a little higher then. You tank looks nice with the blue. I believe most people use mostly all the blues + Purple, with a little bit of cool white and a small bit of red and green.

With sps in that tank, you can even try the other one posted in here, that HAvok is using now.

I had something similar before the Prime, was a lot of white LEDs and like 3-4 blues. This should be a over all better spectrum.

No problem, post progress, would love to see more shot of your tank. Looks nice.
