Ai Prime

I've heard the lunar setting will mess up a node or something along the lines so I haven't fudged with it. I'd like to hear others chime in...

I have heard great things about the lunar cycle feature. Fish and coral use the moon for breading and spawning and people have reported this actually happening in their own tanks with this feature turned on. Prior to this it was less common in home aqauriums. I use it because it seems more natural for the tank inhabitants. Anything i can replicate at home that they were once used to then i try and do it.

Do you have a prime?

I had primes and used the lunar feature. It was a little hard to understand at first, but I did like it. it definitely adds the ability for nightime viewing. My only concern was whichever channel you use for lunar has to be set @ 5% to fully use the cycle. To me that seem a bit bright, so I only set 3%. It still worked fine, but there were more nights where the lights were out completely. I also had the lights to be off totally from 2-8am. Figured even with lunar cycle it was better to have some period of complete darkness.

What color

what color did you set and from what time to what time?

Thank you! I'll give it a shot. I just feel like it's a lot of light for a moon...

I have hydra 52 HDs. Made by same company and controlled the same. The lunar cycle literally follows exactly what the moon is doing in real life on that day. There will be days when the moon is not out and your lights will be off completely.

I tried to set it up when i first got my Hydra 26HD. Didn't get it working right (I think). Then I was going to manually set a period where the lights were on super dim. Then I just ignored it all. Not sure but my other thought was maybe it would preserve the light a little longer if it was totally off instead.

Dumb point to make but make sure your lunar setting and light schedule don't overlap. I just figured this out tonight. I thought I had my lights ramping down from 10:30-12:00 and slowly progressing to lunar. But I saw my lights suddenly switch off and go to lunar. I realize I'm a dummy but thought it might be worth mentioning.

I dont use the lunar feature for the very reason a few people have already stated, even on the lowest intensity, its very bright.

Instead I have year-round Christmas lights hung around the top of my rooms with my aquariums. I have very good eyes and this allows me to see my fish sleeping and some of the night-time critters.

After an unexplained mysterious death of my baby tomini. I feel like they let them find a sleeping spot when the T5's go out. I dont have moonlights on that tank so the Christmas lights make me feel better if nothing else

I value everyone's points, but I like to utilize all of the lights capabilities. What's the point in having it if your not going to use it?

Theres no point in having it if you're not going to use it (Lunar Mode), however, that being said, I bought the prime for its power and form factor, not for its lunar cycle. If there was a way to really tone it down without putting a screen or something in front of it I would definitely use it.

Try using the violet channel so that lunar is only using a single led, vs 3 for blue channels. Or set the max to something less than 5% which will limit the range of brightness.

I dont know why people are saying its to bright, during the lunar phase i have 1 blue channel set to 3 % then during the lunar period the software adjusts that number based on what the moon is doing but never exceeds 3%. Its hardly anything.

my 2c ... I own and use primes ( a few ) and a bunch of other lights , leds and t5s only , I have NEVER used a moonlight on anything , because to me its a gimmick , the actual spectrum of moonlight is not achievable with any single led , https://www.civilbeat.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Moonlight-640x351.jpg and also the position of the moon is a factor also , which I have only seen addressed by a little plotter movement , back when they tried , now lol its a night viewing lamp at best

Bringing this back from the dead

I was playing around with lunar mode and I agree with a few people here, it looks really bright at even 1% blue. If this ran all night, wouldn’t the fish be annoyed and not able to sleep? Do the fish see it differently? Also aside from the brightness. Would this put “wear and tear” on a single diode if it ran basically forever?
