So I've had my unit above my 28 gal jbj for 6 months now and my montiporas have all turned brown and seem to be just slowly dying. Before the led thus was a kick *** hqi that had insane color and growth. Now nothing really does amazing except some fire and ice zoas. I run the unit at about 50% and have kept the color the same. It is about 11" above the tank. I want to hear from others that own the AI about their experiences. I currently am not too happy with the unit.

Redstag, im as curious as you as to whether LEDs alone can support a reef. I know they can grow coral but im not sure about color. Im going to go all LED on my frag tank and all T5 on my 40B. Time will tell the truth.

I have 2 on my 90, and I love them. My colors are fantastic, my sps all have visible growth since adding them to my tank. I have had to move some things around to find where they're happy though. I've bleached two corals, nearly shocked an nps to death and scorched a zoa. now that everything is happy, the colors are better than I could have hoped for.

I run mine at 50-90-90 for what its worth

Op you're scaring me. I just ordered this setup for my tank and sold my MH setup. I really hope this is not the case. I have done a lot of research and you're my first negative I have run across. Seen people say they need more units because of shading, but never death. I hate to preach at you, but are you sure all your perams are in check? Any rapid changes in salinity, Alk, or phosphates? Are you sure you don't have monti eating nudi's, or if you have acro's AEFW, or Red bugs?

I also ran an AI module over my frag tank and experienced the same, but it is only 12"H.So I sold it and went another route.

I've had very mixed results with my AI. I wouldn't get another that's for sure

I've had ais over my tank for about a year and my acros are all doing very well.. The only problem I've had was bleaching.. But that was when i first put the light on.

The only problem i seen with the AI unit is par, my friend has a AI unit over his tank we took a par meter and the par reading was horriable and it was at 100 % blues and whites , then we took a par reading of my DIY Leds ,the same led that are in the AI and my par readings was crazy compared to the AI unit . My fixture is 15inch off the tank his Ai fixure was 12inch off the tank. I think there problem is thay run there XPG at 700ma i run my XPG at 1000ma thats still not max. And T5 is just for supplament for color on leds. I had T5 before and the color that i get from my sps know are why better then my T5 or MH

What optics are you running? On the ai were the optics swapped out.

I get more par consistently from top to bottom of my tank off my 3 ai sil blue fixtures then when I had my 8 bulb ati powermodule over the tank

I have a single AI Sol Blue unit over my 18" cube. I love it. My sps, acans, and z/ps are doing great. Great growth on acros, great color. Good growth of two monti caps that I have. I switched out the 40 degree optics for 70s for better spread. It is about 12" from the water line. I can't imagine ever using MH again....heat, bulb replacements. This fixture gives plenty of shimmer as well.

Optics on the Ai were stock never changed . The DIY leds are 60deg on whites and 40 deg on blues

A LFS here in san jose has a display tank. On one half is an AI fixture they are "Testing growth with" and on the other half is metal halide. The entire AI half is brown and looks like crap. the halide half looks great.

I don't think LED's are quite there yet...(some people obviously will disagree)
