Yeah, I agree, the thunderstorm affect isnt really necessary, but it is pretty cool looking!.

Yup, its a great showoff feature to have for sure. I could see myself setting it to like a 1% chance or something, just enough to surprise you when you see it going.

who cares if it grows coral! it's cool to the owner. thats all that matters. i can't believe there could be negative comments on what makes another reefer happy. it's not like you have to go buy it. i think it's pretty cool. thanks for shareing knowing you didn't have to. haters? really.

To be very honest...
It does look very cool, and looks almost exactly like what we experience during a thunderstorm, on the surface of the Earth... but underwater...
1. The amount of light from a lightning that can penetrate through 20-30 feet of water, is minimal. In reality you won't even notice it happening underwater, unless you're in the localized area where the lightning actually stroke, but since lightning rarely strike the same place twice, I'd safely say that most of the reef inhabitants never seen anything (in terms of the intensity/brightness of the flashes) like you've demonstrated in your video.
2. When I was watching the video, I noticed how the clowns were startled by the simulated lightnings, and their behavior after the initial flashes demonstrate that the poor things were in stress. I wouldn't be surprise if you've any fishes like dartfish/firefish, royal gamma, six-line wrasse, etc. they'll jump right out from the tank as they're startled by the lightning.

Who cares if the lightning is pointless to the corals. How cool would it be when someone comes looks at the tank and you turn it on. Not only would other reefers think it is cool but everyone that does not have a tank and comes over would be absolutely amazed with the technology. I like it just cause you can do it. Pretty cool man!

Sweet... one of the coolest dang gimmicks ever. Like heated floors... not that useful, but super dope to have! thanks for taking the time to entertain us... friggin nifty. Gonna have to try to do something similar - for pure kicks....
