AI Sol Blue?

I have a 40g breeder and the dimensions are 36" L x 18" W x 16" D. Do you think 1 AI Sol Blue fixture would be enough to not only sufficiently light the whole tank but actually promote good coral growth? I'm just wondering if it would have to be hung so high above the water for it's light spread to cover the tank that it's overall effectiveness would be greatly diminished.

You'd have shadowing. It only covers a 24x24 area. I have two. You would get good color and growth in that covered area tho. Imo

Bummer, that's what I was afraid of...I don't want a brightly lit center of tank with dim sides.

I have two over a 60"x18" x23" tall 100G mixed reef and have no shadowing or dark spots.

I raised them so the fixtures are exactly 12" above the waterline and have great coverage.

The thing about shadowing is you can keep differant corals in those areas that do not demand strong lighting. Plus I kind of like the shadows, it seems to add more depth to the tank.

It won't be dim, just not as strong. Like others have stated, perfect for lower light corals. Just my opinion and experience. I love my AI's. My tank is 40/26/26.
