Now I figuring out a material I can use to hang them . I did not buy the hanger from them cause its made to use the lights front to back while I'm going sideways. I'm open to suggestions on what to use material wise. I've thought about using a flat piece of aluminum . Or a piece of red oak cause its strong. I'm worried of center sag units are a little heavy.

I've used decorative black chain from Home Depot with hooks mounted in the ceiling for an inexpensive solution before. BTW, I love the granite countertop.

One light at 100% while sitting on the counter top dam near gave me welder's blindness. Lol. I'm going to run them around 65% power. Controller is so sweet. I decided on red oak painted black. I spent all afternoon mocking it up and I have one coat of black on the wood. Everything is measured out just waiting on paint.

Nice lights I have some as well. I would honestly start them even lower at around 25-30% and slowly raise them. These babies are powerful! How high will they be mounted?

What is this? LEDs?

Yes. We should do an LED meeting topic. Between Scott and myself, both of whom are electrical engineers, I think we could dispel some myths and show people how to do LEDs on a budget and reap all the benefits associated with LEDs. I'm more than willing to help anyone out who is considering them. I'm a die-hard old skool MH guy but am really enjoying LEDs. Its nice to finally be able to keep Catalina gobies and not have to worry about baking them. Plus, with no chiller, the electricity savings are significant. You can do an LED system for about the cost of 2-3 replacement MH bulbs so if you're in it for the long haul, it is worth considering. Don't let the high prices of the commercial fixtures scare you off!

Mel, the ballast and bulbs are yours for no cost if you're still interested. I'll have to do a slight modification so I don't have to worry about you electrocuting yourself but it is pretty trivial. Approaching plyometrics hour so I need to sign off...

I would like to build an LED fixture for a 40B. I don't have the time to do all the research, so if you guys could get me a parts list and what not, we could do a build at a meeting or something. It would need to be after April though.

I plan on hanging the lights this afternoon. I will post a pic of finished product. I will need some frags in about 2 weeks if water parameters are good . I'm wanting a brain drag , Duncan, zoas, anything wavy. Tank needs color. Jake asked what I was going to grow: he told me all of it. Lol.

Oh HELL YEAH. I'd love it. Thanks Dave!

Also, I think this is a fantastic idea for a meeting topic OR for a mini-seminar at the Frag Swap. You guys should put together a make-it-and-take-it for the frag swap. People could order LEDs and supplies upfront and we could wire some stuff together...or at least show them how to do a few of the LEDs and then they could finish their fixtures at home.

I've got a good size Duncan I can frag some, also got some orange zoas frags, and a large chalice I'll be cutting up for frag swap, but could cut on it sooner...

These are the orange centered zoas...I've got 15-20 polyps...sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. Pm me if you like them

I would love to get in on some of that action! I've been researching and both for Aquarium and for growing veggies and flowers... It seems kinda the same type leds both have White/Blue/Red/Orange lighting... I just don't understand what the difference is between grow light led and aqaurium led except the price and watts...

Thanks

Pics as promised. I'm going to go check water parameters. I will check out frags from anyone. I need them.
