So I know this has been discussed and I’m probably just not searching the right words, but is there a way to determine the gph of an overflow to get the max pump size to upgrade an AIO? The one I’m looking at lacks a lot of information and I’m not seeing anyone here having it.

I upgraded my Fluval M90 AIO return pump with this adjustable DC pump from Current-USA. It was the largest pump that I could find that would still fit in the return chamber (I did remove the intake screen so it would fit). I got the 1050gph version which is the second smallest. They make a 550gph version designed to fit in AIO tanks.

I started it low and slowly increased the speed until I felt the overflow couldn't take anymore. For me this was about 60% power.

These use a dial on the controller to adjust the speed. It is very smooth. Like having 100 speeds instead of 5 or 10 steps.

I had to add water to the system because there was about 3/4 of an inch more water in the display.

The pump is ultra quiet at full power. Dead quiet below 50%.

Best upgrade I ever did on that tank. I recommend you try it.
