I am planning to embark on building an AIO aquarium from scratch and I am currently planning out the filtration and I was wondering what skimmers would be best for this purpose?

I have looked at aqua maxx HOB skimmers and they have great reviews but I was hoping to get something i could fit in the filtration compartment.

any thoughts? The tank is L28” x W21” x H21” with the overflow on the 21” Side

Any other filtration methods or suggestions are very welcomed thank you!

The tunze 9004 had a small footprint. Will you have room to make a refugium compartment?. I like a fuge over almost all forms of mechanical and chemical filtration.

I was not planning on running a fuge i have 75 gallon mixed reef with no fuge and it operates very well.

Any specific reason i would definitely want to reconsider this?

l am not against using an algae scrubber and have seen same pretty compact options so if I do this do I really need a fuge?

I wouldn’t think you would need a fuge. From what I’ve been told in order for a fuge to really do the job it’s supposed to do it has to be quite big. The fuges we run do their job but not what everyone expects them to do, if that makes sense.
