AIO tank filter cleaning

I am running an 8 gallon AIO nano. I am attempting to run it without a skimmer with large weekly water changes. But I'm also wondering what needs to be done with an AIO tank's back compartment and filter. How often should the filter media be cleaned? There is a ton of gunk there and I've only had the tank running a couple of months.

And as another option, does anyone know of a skimmer that will fit well in a Nuvo 8? Thanks,

I believe the instructions for the IM Media Filters suggest that you rinse the filters out every 1-2 weeks and that they be replaced every month.

i cleaned mine once a month ,i would consider a nano skimmer
