Hello,

I am a couple weeks in on my first saltwater tank in 20 years. In my daily check up, I came across this little guy who has me worried he is aiptasia. I bought the tank second hand and added some small frags from my LFS. Any help and thoughts are greatly appreciated. Sorry the pic isn’t great, it is the bottom right hand side. Again, Thank You!

Sorry I can’t insert the image either. What a nooob.

Howdy

Looks like it could be aiptasia. The base looks like its hard which is weird. It could be growing out of an old coral or its some other type of filter feeder.

It was a piece of live rock that was already in the tank that I put a frag on last weekend. Just noticed this guy the other day and also thought it looked like a zoa. Which is why I haven’t killed it yet but don’t want to wait too long. The previous owner did state he had corals in the system but when I bought it, there were none present in the tank.

Here is the whole piece.

Can you ask him if he had zoas or palys?
If the base is hard then its not an aiptasia anemone.
