Aiptasia Eating Filefish. Does anyone know something about it?

Yes on jumpers, I lost 2 because I didn't learn the first time. Oohhhhh was I ticked!

Not all specimens will go after aiptasia, when the one that decimates the population jumps its a problem. Haven't been able to source one since and my aiptasia has reached "show piece" proportions.

Had one that ate about $300 worth of zoas in one night oh but yes cleared out all the aiptasia the same night too. Sorry to say I won’t have another one anytime soon.

Mine have done a great job.

Not 100% sure. Something eat my zoas. I hear fox face can do that. who ever it is eats them when I am not around.

I have a cover but I doubt it. Anything can be.

I would be curious to know more about this little fish. It looks pretty cool.
I love mine and they have spawned a few times.

I had an aptasia outbreak in my tank and went with Berghia Nudibranchs. They got all the aptasia and it never came back. Looked into the file fish, but saw a few posts about it eating coral or not getting the root of the aptasia leaving it the ability to grow back.

I would be curious to know more about this little fish. It looks pretty cool.

So I’ve kept them for years. I find them absolutely fascinating. They seem to just float on by. The most peaceful fish every and very odd in demeanor and looks. They are very hardy, captive bred, and DO eat aptasia. Little one inch filefish are quite adorable but because they kind of camouflage themselves they can be quite difficult to spot. They can dart quickly when startled but are not considered jumpers. They will eat anything. But smaller filefishes will not eat large aiptasia. Hope that helps.

I would stay away from them file fish in reef tank... took me 2 wks to catch,while he eat my hammer coral pecked at 2 colony of sps until they rtn on me ate zoas,oh and after i removed the fish all the apstatia popped back up.I watched the fish do this ,it had my blood pressure so high .. I couldnt catch him,he see me with net dart back into rocks

Mine ate the aiptasia in our RSR250 and then started dining on zoas so we moved him to our 20 gallon which had only a gsp which he didn’t bother and he totally wiped out all the bubble algae in that tank.

Mine was the ultimate solution to getting rid of aiptasia in my display, never jumped, seems pretty solitary, they're readily available, but there are sure pricey options, and cheaper options, luckily for me a local place I trust had a sale at the right time and I got a really good one cheap, I did not QT him and he's been happily in my display for about 4 months, after the 1st month he had cleaned up all aiptasia, and has never touched a coral.
