When I added to the reef I watched in anticipation, it swam right down to my acan and looked to nip at it. I thought there must have been an Aiptasia there, it nipped at it again and my gut said take it out but I said give it time. I had to go out of town when I got back my acan is almost a goner, it went from

In about two weeks.

Today I saw it starting on a scoly.

I should have trusted my gut. It is going back to store as soon as I can catch it.

Filefish are finicky little things but glad you have option to return it to your LFS!

If you actually have aptasia, perhaps try peppermint shrimp?

Oh yeah I'd draxx that sklounst. He's got to go

I got a couple aptasia. Not enough to sustain Berghia nudis though. They don't appear to be spreading. I think I'm going to order the majano wand mini. Bad part is I can only use it for 1 min at a time in my size tank and I'd probably have to do a water change afterwards. It looks like a beast though.

I have had decent luck with peppermint shrimp in the past and I should have stuck with them....

Mine destroyed $1200 of scoly's overnight.
He went back to the LFS real fast !<whoosh>

You were lucky!

The thing that scares me about bringing them back is they will probably resell it. I called and told them it was eating acans and they said they had never heard that before like they did not belive me.

Mine got 1 nice war paint scoly and a decent size acan so far....never put fish that may not be reef safe before traveling haha.

Filefish are not reef safe. I‘ve heard too many of the same outcomes.

They're perfectly fine in a FOWLR tank.

Mine is now happily residing in the live rock tank at the LFS and has been there for almost a year.
Pity, they're cool fish to watch.

Mine ate the aiptasia then promptly destroyed a large zoa colony with 100+ polyps. It now lives in the sump. Problem is that the other tank has aiptasia, but I'm scared to release it in there.

I tried a majano in a previous tank, IME it made it worse.

My take is that acans and scolies taste like aiptasia
I have a CBB and he does eat aiptasia but he decimated all my acans and slowly killed my green scolly. My overflow and refuge are packed with aiptasia growing on the glass and on the Chaeto!. I just got a filefish for the refuge. It has been a week since but he did not touch the aips yet. However, he did get rid of all the huge ugly bristle worms that proliferated there. Snails are gone too :confused-face:.
I think CBB is a better solution if you agree to give up on some types of corals. I feed mine half a mussle every day and he is fat and happy (he is over a year in my DT). My filefish seem happy in my refuge. He switched on a green camouflage color and so I get to see him only occasionally.

It didn't make mine worse that I could tell, but I never had it actually kill one. I've tried it 5 or 6 different times. To make is worse, the majano would just retreat into their hole and be back out within an hour.

Just added one yesterday to get a few Aiptasia out of my tank. Came home from work today and saw my scoly looked like it got shot in a drive by. Saw the filefish crapping a huge green turd to add insult to injury. Argh, right when I get it looking fat and healthy… Needless to say, the fuge has a new resident.

I had a peppermint shrimp that ate my new mushroom so be wary of these guys if you have a great coral/ menu for them, I've not dealt with aiptasia yet so I assume it was hungry for meat

I just tossed out the scoly mine ate today it was holding on for a while and I was hoping it would make a miraculous recovery as it was really bad but no such luck. My acan however has made a full recovery.
