Oh file fish are beautiful and can get quite tame when they get to know you. They allways remind me a bit of seahorses the way there eyes swivel around. I had mine a few years and could feed it by hand. I think they are great , never cause any trouble

OK, so I wound up asking about aiptasia in another post and found good answers here. Now I have a question based on above. Do you use the boiling water treatment right in the tank, or do you remove the rock. I've been using Aiptasia-X, but it is often hard to reach the critters. I hate to be moving rock around and disturbing the fish. Anyone ever just dunk the whole rock in boiling water? Wouldn't the good bacteria in the sand repopulate the rock. I'm really tired of fighting off hitchhikers like bristleworms and aiptasia.

I use it right in the tank. Keep in mind that the water will cool/mix rapidly but not fast enough to potentially kill things in the immediate surrounding. If you pull out the rock the aiptasia will likely shrink and be harder to see and the near boiling water will affect more of the rock if done in air vs in water. Though if aiprasia is in the sand you can just siphon it out.

I had a huge Aptesia problem. I had over 20.
I added 2 peppermint shrimp, and a few days later, there was no single Aptesia left

I feel your pain dealing with these things. I had a outbreak so bad I thought I was going to have to bust my entire system down. Everywhere you looked I had the dreaded aptasia. Peppermint shrimp were the cure all for me.

First file fish worked great..Returned for credit. Second only liked LPS. No luck with shrimp..Use a laser now. Survivalaser USA

Just an update here. I bought 3 peppermint shrimp. At the same time the guy at the LFS suggested I was overfeeding my fish, so I cut the feedings in half. Slowly the peppermints disappeared. I think the clown fish ate them!
